The more I read scripture, the more it is affirmed just how much we are called to delight ourselves in the Lord. Nothing compares to Him- He is the fullness of everything that we seek, that we could ever hope to attain. Our joy brings Him glory because, "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him," and should be what we seek above all else. Not just joy, or a sense of joy, but the fullness of joy that can only be found in the presence of God. His divine nature inspires us to have joy; His very presence is what gives us the only joy that is complete. My thoughts on this subject are vast, but I wanted to write a little about what was on my heart. I want my focus to always be to delight myself in the Lord and to encourage anyone reading this to do the same.
"O God, you are my God;
earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you."
~Psalm 63:1-3
"Whom have I in heaven but you?
And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever."
~Psalm 73:25-26
"You will make known to me the path of life;
in Your presence is fullness of joy;
in Your right hand there are pleasures forever."
~Psalm 16:11
